Pima County invites you to find your new best friend at Tucson Meet Yourself Oct. 12-14

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012

You might just find your best snuggle buddy yet at the Tucson Meet Yourself festival this year.

The kind with fur, wet noses and sloppy kisses, that is.

Whether you’re looking for a jogging partner, a walking buddy or just a great companion, dogs from Pima Animal Care Center will be looking for new homes all three days of the festival, in front of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library downtown, 101 N. Stone Ave.

The festival runs from Friday, Oct. 12, to Sunday, Oct. 14.

“There will be many great performances to see at Tucson Meet Yourself, but I still think our dogs will be the stars of the show,” said Jayne Cundy, public services supervisor at Pima Animal Care, www.pimaanimalcare.org/.

Three other areas that help enhance the quality of life in Pima County will be featured at the Pima County Pavilion. Festival attendees can grab some shade under our tent and learn about the 55 miles of car-free paths under development on The Loop, the entertainment options available at Kino Sports Complex, and tips on how to save money (and the planet) at our Sustainability Corner.

Be sure to check the festival schedule for fun interactive displays at our stage, from cool bicycle tricks to dog training 101 to vintage fashion shows and demos from athletic personalities.

Cats don’t do as well with crowds and noise, so they won’t be coming, but anyone looking for a little feline friendship can head to the main shelter at 4000 N. Silverbell Road.

All adoptions will be discounted for the three-day event. No adoption will cost more than $50 – which includes vaccination, alterations, microchip and licensing. Some of our animals are pre-altered, which means they can go home the same day they are adopted.

Animal care staff and field officers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Bicycle valet service will be available right next to the booth for those pedaling over to the festival.

Donate online to Pima Animal Care Center to help abused animals, provide discounts for difficult-to-adopt pets

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Pima County, Ariz. (Feb. 7, 2012) – Beginning Feb. 7, Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) can accept donations online.   To make a donation, go to: http://www.pimaanimalcare.org/donateinfo.asp

Making your donation online makes it easier to determine how you’d like your donation to be used by the animal care agency. Donations can be earmarked for a variety of uses. They can help PACC provide discounted adoptions for animals difficult to adopt. They can also help pay for spay and neuter procedures.

Here’s how donations to the various PACC funds can be used:

  • Spay/Neuter: Help reduce pet overpopulation.
  • Medical: Pay for treatment and support for PACC animals that have suffered physical and mental abuse.
  • Adoption: Provide special discounts for people who adopt difficult-to-place pets.
  • General: Help staff provide advanced disease-control measures. Pay for amenities to comfort the animals.
  • Outreach and Education: Donations are the sole source of funding for supplies and materials for outreach at local schools.

“We are regularly asked if donations can be made online. Up until this point this service has not been available. Now it is. Staff is excited to make this easy payment option available to pet owners and others in Pima County,” Said PACC Manager Kim Janes.

Please consider making a gift for a birthday, anniversary or in remembrance of the death of a loved one or a pet.  If you have questions about donating online, call the Pima Animal Care Licensing Department in Tucson at (520) 243-5969.
