Health Department Offers Back-to-School Immunization Clinics

The Pima County Health Department will offer extended hours at its offices in July and August to provide more opportunities for children to be vaccinated before the start of school.

While vaccines are available at Health Department offices all year long, additional hours and opportunities to schedule an appointment will make it easier for families to beat the rush before school starts.

Back to School Clinics will be held at the following locations:

  • East Office: 6920 E. Broadway Blvd. (520) 298-3888
  • North Office: 3550 N. 1st Ave. (520) 243-2850
  • South Office: 175 W. Irvington Road (520) 889-9543
  • Green Valley Office: 601 N. La Cañada Dr. (520) 648-1626
  • Catalina Office: 3535 E. Hawser St. (520) 825-9299

Hours for each of the clinics are attached, and can also be found along with fees at www.pimahealth.org.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive a vaccine, and it’s recommended that they eat before receiving a vaccine.

Remember to bring:

  • AHCCCS or insurance card
  • Current immunization card

Local restaurants help diners identify healthy choices with county Health Department’s new Smart Choices program

The Pima County Health Department’s “Healthy Pima” Program is introducing its Smart Choices for Healthy Dining Program to the public Thursday, February 16 at 3 p.m. at the Tucson Museum of Art Plaza,  at 140 North Main Ave. in downtown Tucson.

Local restaurant owners and chefs will join experts inf nutrition to launch this Smart Choices program that will give local diners the opportunity to find healthy menu items at many of their favorite restaurants.

For a restaurant to participate in the Smart Choices program it must have at least three menu items with this nutritional profile:
• ≤ 700 calories
• ≤ 30% calories from fat
• ≤ 8 g. saturated fat
• No artificial trans-fats
• ≤ 1000 mg sodium

Smart Choices for Healthy Dining is an initiative developed by a coalition working through the Pima County Health Department Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) grant, the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, the University of Arizona and participating Pima County restaurants.

The Smart Choices program will  be linked with NutritionHub, a new local start-up developed by graduates of The University of Arizona Eller College of Management.

NutritionHub is an online and mobile food recommendation system and nutrition tracker designed to make living a healthy lifestyle simple. The website and phone application creates a personalized plan for every user based on their health goals and even accommodates for their individual taste preferences in locating healthy meals.
