Pillsbury Honors Teachers
Back-to-school is just around the corner for many of us. If you’re a teacher or educator, you’re probably wondering where the heck the summer has gone. Well, Pillsbury Wines tasting rooms want you to enjoy one last summer adventure—tasting their wines. They are running a 2-for-1 tasting for all teachers and educators through August 15 in both tasting rooms.
If you’re a current teacher, retired teacher, soon-to-be teacher, school administrator, teacher’s aide—head on up to Cottonwood or roll on out to Willcox to claim your treat. Lots of WildChilds around here—Red and White—and you won’t even have to send them to the principal’s office.
Dine to Donate to Yarnell
JD Marshall felt it was important that the families that lost everything in this terrible Yarnell fire tragedy be somehow honored. Marshall, a bar operations manager and certified wine sommelier, has spirited the Dine to Donate project—local establishments are donating a portion of profits for an evening to the American Red Cross. The Red Cross was chosen as beneficiary of this effort, JD explained, since they are first responders on the scene soon after disaster strikes, man-made or natural, and are there to provide, comfort, shelter, and the necessities to survive.
Restaurants participating include Gurley Street Grill, The Office Restaurant and Bar, Applebee’s (Prescott), Fireside Grill (in the Prescott Brewing Company), El Gato Azul, Peacock Dining Room (in the historic Hassayampa Inn), and Sue Ann’s Apple Pan (only open for breakfast and lunch). They will be doing the Dine to Donate this Sunday, July 21, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to close unless otherwise noted. Applebee’s will be participating for both lunch and dinner.
Other restaurants that have already held Dine to Donate efforts include three of Carole Kennelly (Grand Canyon Winery) family’s restaurants in Williams—Doc Holliday’s Steakhouse, Station 66 Italian Bistro, and McGuillicuddy’s Southwestern Bar and Grill.
If your business would like to participate in Dine to Donate, contact JD at (928) 713-2487 for more information or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Grape to Glass Wine Symposium
Peggy Fiandaco reminds us that it’s time for the annual Lawrence Dunham Vineyards Wine Symposium—their fourth annual celebration. If you’ve never been, you’re in for the delight of your life. This fourth annual event will be held on the LDV property, 5000-feet high in the Chiricahua Mountains near Pearce, AZ, on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. among their lush vineyards—it just doesn’t get more scenic (and breath-taking) than this.
The grapes’ journey from the vineyard into wine is celebrated with vineyard and winery tours, presentations on sustainable farming practices and processing, plenty of wine, and great food served on the crush pad. The gourmet lunch is worth the price of admission—featuring locally grown vegetables, cheeses, and produce, as well as mesquite grilled beef and salmon paired with LDV’s highly rated wines. Participants will be part of the state’s largest tasting panel, tasting and evaluating different barrel blends by the winemaker. Registration is $65.00. Call 602-320-1485 or pay online.
There will be an After Party Concert at LDV, featuring Buzz and the Soul Senders, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. For those who just want to join in the after-symposium fun in a beautiful setting, admission will be only $10.00 per person which includes three wine-tasting tickets. Bring your lawn chairs, picnic dinner, and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy the music. LDV wines will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle.
