PRE-ARIZONA HISTORY “BUFFS” GATHER AT GREEN VALLEY
by Hot Off The Press (Release) on Feb. 10, 2012, under Press ReleasesJuan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail scholars, regional historians, enthusiasts, genealogists and others will meet March 8-11 at the beautiful Wyndham Canoa Ranch Resort, Green Valley for the 17th Annual International Anza Conference featuring a weekend of talks, tours and entertainment sponsored by the local Anza Society, reports Sharon Myers, society president.
Friday will be a day of presentations culminating with banquet keynote speaker and noted Arizona historian, Jim Turner, who will talk about two Spanish Period presidios, Terrenate and San Bernadino, including some little known information.
Field trips, information and entertainment is on the menu for Saturday. Visits to San Cayetano de Calabazas; Los Santos Angeles de Guevavi; Hacienda Corona del Guevavi once owned by the elder Anza; Tubac Presidio State Park and finally Mission San Jose de Tumacacori for tour and living history entertainment.
Sunday will conclude with the annual society meeting followed by a walking tour of historic Tubac. Anza Society President Myers invites everyone to attend and celebrate Arizona’s centennial 1912-2012, but notes that there is a lot more history in the area.
