ARIZONA LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS AWARDED FOR WORK AND CONTRIBUTIONS

WHO: The Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (AzASLA) recognizes April as “Landscape Architecture Month” by presenting their annual Awards Gala on the eve – Saturday, March 31, 2012. The Annual AzASLA Awards Gala recognizes Arizona landscape architect professionals, students and projects that represent the most significant achievements in 2011. Both AzASLA professionals and landscape architecture students at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona will be recognized.

WHAT: AzASLA President, Irene Ogata, reflects on this year’s theme as, “Landscape architects take on the role of creators, collaborators, communicators, facilitators and leaders across the fields of land development, land management, policy and successful community building.”

Prior to the Awards Gala Dinner, a powerful Educational Conference addresses topics of landscape as economic drivers. The highly anticipated Conference is combined with the annual AzASLA Awards Gala that will present awards of excellence and honor to outstanding public spaces, and commercial and residential designs. National judges will have juried and awarded winning projects that best exemplify design and planning quality and execution, response to site context, environmental sensitivity and sustainability, and value to the public, the client, and other designers.

Several special awards will be presented this year including Best Sustainable Landscape Maintenance Practices and a Community Service Award to recognize members’ volunteer contributions benefitting the public; Sage Award; and Educator of the Year award among others.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Shane Coen, FASLA, Principal with Coen+Partners - a nationally renowned landscape architecture practice based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Shane’s work was described as “a new, distinct voice to the profession”, and the strength of his work is derived from his emphasis on collaboration.
