Britain’s “Telegraph” newspaper has named the International School of Tucson one of the of the “best schools for [expatriates] in the Unites States“.

IST was the only school not on the US East Coast named, and the only school in a relatively small city. The article was one in a series about top international schools around the world. Previous countries covered have included Australia,Germany and Spain, along with a series of stories on international education in general.

“When the Telegraph contacted us, I was gobsmacked” said IST’s Head of School Mr Robert Young. “I was literally speechless as to why possibly the second largest and most influential newspaper in the British world would have reached out to us.” The telephone and email interviews were considerably more involved than the final story would suggest he said.

“I think we were selected because our academic program meets internaitonal standards,” said Young, “and because we have such strong music and extra-curricular programs. These are of great importance to expatriate families who are in Tucson temporarily, or to local families who expect to be moving.”

IST is an independent PK – G5 school offering a program in immersion Chinese, French, German and Spanish, taught to international standards by an international faculty. For more information on the International School of Tucson, visit the school’s website.
