TUCSON, Ariz. (July 11, 2012) – The Parish, Tucson’s only Southern fusion gastropub, has launched a month-long campaign to help support a local music program that is working to bring musical training to low-income kids in Tucson who otherwise could not afford it.
The Tucson Summer Music Program, started in 2009 by Salpointe Catholic High School graduate and Occidental College student Shelby King, provides musical training to children ages 6–13 at no cost. The 501(c)3 program is managed and maintained by a volunteer teachers who provide 30-minute lessons to children in low-income families. King started the program, in its third year, when budget cuts in Arizona music programs made it more difficult for kids to learn to sing, play instruments and enrich their lives through music.
To help the program continue, The Parish is holding a month-long opportunity for patrons and the community to support the project through food, music and donations. “We’re excited to get involved with this program; Tucson Summer Music provides and opportunity these kids would not otherwise have. Music is important, and we’re passionate about the importance of music in children’s lives,” said Steve Dunn, co-owner of The Parish. “We’re going to do everything we can to help and know the Tucson community will rise to the occasion.”
Throughout the 4-week fundraiser, patrons can support the Tucson Summer Music Program in three different ways: by ordering from a specialty food menu, making donations through a music record label pin-up program and participating in a night dedicated to the cause – Rescue Music Night on Aug. 4. All of the profits will
benefit Tucson Summer Music.
The Parish is located at 6453 N. Oracle Road. For more information contact Steve Dunn at (520) 797-1233. Learn more about Tucson Summer Music at www.TucsonSummerMusic.com.
