This year’s general election is full of ballot initiatives; one ballot initiative will have a positive, long-lasting impact on victims of domestic violence if passed. Proposition 204, the Quality Education and Jobs Initiative, will funnel millions of dollars to programs that provide services to victims of domestic abuse. “Without the passage of Proposition 204, it is likely that domestic violence programs will see decimating funding cuts due to the loss of the sales tax revenue brought from the passage of Proposition 100 in 2010,” says Sarah Jones, CEO of Emerge!. With the passage of Proposition 204, service providers in Arizona will receive nearly $100 million. Due to Proposition 100’s 1% sales tax expiring in 2013, it is imperative that Proposition 204 be passed to provide families the resources they need to escape abuse and rebuild their lives.
