Women’s Foundation Announces Availability of Grantsby Hot Off The Press (Release) on Oct. 09, 2012, under Press Releases
The Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona (WFSA) opened its 2012-2013 annual grants cycle October 1st. Not-for-profit organizations in Southern Arizona may begin the application process by completing a Letter of Intent available exclusively on the Foundation’s website, www.womengiving.org. Letters of Intent are due by 5:00pm on October 31, 2012.
This year WFSA’s annual grants focus is on operational, rather than programmatic support.
“One of the most commonly cited concerns during discussions with not-for-profit organizations here in Southern Arizona is how difficult it is to raise unrestricted dollars for general operations,” said WFSA Grants Committee Co-Chair Stephen Cornell, Ph.D., a volunteer who also serves on the Board of Directors. “So our annual grants this year are for operational support.”
“Our research shows that at least 38 percent of single parent households headed by women live below the poverty level, and to boot, the poverty level is well below what it actually takes to be economically self sufficient,” says WFSA Executive Director Laura Penny. “That’s why our grants invest in not-for-profit organizations that offer programs that help women prosper financially.”
The mission of the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona is to foster equity and opportunity for women and girls. Since 1993, the Foundation has awarded more than $1.7 million to 175 southern Arizona organizations that serve women and girls.
