Pima Holds Earth Science Day Events at Northwest Campusby Hot Off The Press (Release) on Oct. 16, 2012, under Press Releases
Tucson, AZ – More than 50 community groups and organizations will participate next week in Earth Science Day at Pima Community College’s Northwest Campus.
The annual event is aimed at exposing students of all ages to the wonders of science and the natural world.
“Earth Science Day is a great opportunity to encourage students to explore the geosciences,” said Michael Tulino, vice president for student development at the Northwest Campus. “Students will not only get the chance to learn about astronomy, climatology and geology, but they will be able to check the accuracy of our giant campus sundial and taste food cooked in a solar oven.”
Chocolate chip cookies, pizza bagels and even a pot roast were among the treats that have been prepared with solar ovens at previous Earth Science Day events.
This year’s participants include the Titan Missile Museum, Arizona –Sonora Desert Museum, Society of Women Engineers, Ironwood National Forest and Pima Air & Space Museum.
“The atmosphere will be fun and lively,” Tulino said. “It will be like a carnival of science. We will have numerous hands-on science and engineering activities to spark students’ interest in the natural world.”
Also attending this year will be representatives from the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University, as well Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the University of Phoenix and Prescott College
Earth Science Day is free and open to the public.
