Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market & Desert Harvesters Host Mesquite Milling Event on 11/15/12
by Hot Off The Press (Release) on Nov. 01, 2012, under Press ReleasesTucson: Many in Tucson are familiar with the mesquite trees in our neighborhoods, but few know that these native trees are an excellent source of food. Mesquite pods are a versatile food that may be ground into nutritious flour or sweeteners – the perfect addition to pancakes, breads or your favorite cookies.
Join the Santa Cruz River Famers’ Market on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM for a mesquite milling event. The Desert Harvesters will mill your mesquite pods and charge $2.00 per gallon for whole pods, with a minimum of $5.00. For more information, go to www.desertharvesters.org.
Check out the recipes that include mesquite flour or pods and try a free sample from Barbara Rose’s “Cooking with Mesquite” demonstration.
The Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market is located at El Mercado San Agustin, 100 S. Avenida del Convento, west of I-10 near Congress and Grande.
