Copper Creek School to Host Peace Conferenceby Hot Off The Press (Release) on Jan. 30, 2013, under Press Releases
Tucson, AZ – Peace Week is every week at Copper Creek Elementary School in the Amphitheater District, but there will be a series of special events Jan.30 and Feb.1.
The theme for this year’s Peace Conference is being kind: Stomping out bullying. Students will participate in discussions about rumor spreading, bullying, gossiping, doing the right thing, cyber bullying and laws concerning such activities. Each Amphitheater elementary school will send 10 fifth grade ambassadors to Copper Creek. Those students will take back lessons learned to their own schools.
Members of the Canyon Del Oro LINK Crew will facilitate small group discussions with younger students. LINK Crew members are upper class (junior and senior) mentors who help to ease the transition from middle school to high school.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, there will be a dove and balloon release. A dove representing each school will be released into the air, along with balloons representing each participating student.
On Friday, student will participate in a Unity Rally. Copper Creek and Ironwood Ridge High School choir students perform songs about peace.
Students will hear an amazing story from Queen Creek High School seniors Carson Jones, Tucker Workman and Colton Moore. The star football players stood up and said “NO” to bullying in their school by supporting their special needs friend, instead of allowing other students to tease her. Chy Johnson now has a special seat of honor at the team lunch table!
