Local filmmaker seeks funding for controversial short film on immigrationby Hot Off The Press (Release) on Apr. 10, 2013, under Press Releases
Adam Ray and Taxman Entertainment Pictures seek crowd funders to build a three part dark drama relating to coyotes (smugglers) between the USand Mexico, keeping out politics, the border patrol, and controversial laws but attaching the film to the human aspects of being an “illegal alien.” Taxman Entertainment strives to fund strictly for local cast and crew inTucson and southernArizona.
TUCSON, April, 2013 – Taking place in the desert, in the States, and on the farmlands of Mexico, Coyote the movie sets the stage for three stories webbed among one another. Written by Ray, he attempts to keep the balance between both sides of the immigration conflict north and south of the border, literally.
The first part of the film follows the sympathizer Francisco as he helps a group of immigrants from the perilous desert back into civilization. The second part follows the farmer Amadeo as he puts his kin in danger to smuggle his family into theUnited States. The last part follows the immigrant Ramon as he’s dropped off in the middle of the desert by two coyotes that leave him there to die.
Ray says that he’s trying to express the human factors relating to immigration and he emphasizes that coyotes are a big part of the problem when it comes to the border conflict. He feels that it’s a false hope for paradise that traps people in the desert to suffer and sometimes die. He attempts to make the film a cry for desperation from different perspectives while leaving out the actual coyotes – In the entire script, there’s only one page that have coyote characters, the rest of the film follows their aftermath.
Ray will be around Tucson dressed as an immigrant, reading the script aloud to bystanders, hoping to obtain a supporting audience that’ll help contribute. He also hopes to find the right people to play the characters in the film.
