PCC Women’s Golf Qualifies for National Tourney
Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s golf team locked its spot in the NJCAA National Tournament on Thursday after finishing in second place at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Phoenix. The top two teams in the conference receive a bid to Nationals and the Aztecs secured the second place spot.
The Aztecs made up ground after finishing the first day in third place and 15-strokes back from second place.
Pima finished with a team-score of 745 and as a team shot 11-strokes better than the first day (378-367). Josie Trapnell earned medalist honors for the fifth time in six tournaments this season. She shot a 170 (83-87) which gave her sixth place among individuals. Shelby Empens (Mountain View HS) finished with a 182 (87-95) while Abriana Romero (St. Gregory College Prep HS) closed out the tournament with a 188 (98-90).
The Aztecs will close out the regular season in Phoenix at the Toka Sticks Golf Course hosted by Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Apr. 22-23.
