Worldwide of Tucson celebrate Syttende
The Tucson chapter of Norwegians Worldwide will celebrate Syttende Mai, the annual celebration of Norway’s independence, with a Norwegian breakfast on Saturday, May 18th at 7:30 am at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, 665 West Roller Coaster Road (Roller Coaster and Oracle Road). The constitution declaring Norway to be an independent nation was signed at Eidsvoll, Norway on May 17th, 1814.
Norwegian Folk dancing will be performed by the chapters Leikarring Dancers.
Norman Johnsen will speak on “A Whaler’s Diary” sharing how Norwegian whalers celebrated Norway’s Constitution Day (Syttende Mai) 10,000 miles from Oslo. There will also be a Parade of Flags.
Reservations for the breakfast are required. Please contact Gretchen at 887-1114 for reservations
by May 13th. Cost for adults is $8.00; children age 12 and under are free.
