ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL CELEBRITY SPELLING BEE TO BENEFIT TUSD EDUCATIONAL
Tucson, AZ- The
Sakin Foundation announces its second annual Celebrity Spelling Bee on Friday,
August 16, 2013 at the Temple of Music and Art. The event will begin at 7:30PM.
This year’s event will benefit the Educational Enrichment Foundation
Contestants this year include: Tucson Mayor Jonathan
Rothschild, Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson, Pima County Schools
Superintendent Linda Arzoumanian, Arizona Daily Star editorial cartoonist David
Fitzsimmons, and former UA Basketball forward and Harlem Globetrotter Joseph
This is a FUN-raiser and not a strict spelling bee.
Contestants will study word lists in advance of the show, and will be allowed
one lifeline to help them spell a word during the event. As a special twist,
former spelling bee champions will act as judges during the show and pronounce
the words for contestants.
All proceeds will be donated to EEF, which provides basic
tools for students in TUSD to attend class including shoes and eyeglasses as
well as classroom grants to teachers and students.

Mesch, Clark and Rothschild, retired Pima College instructor Donna Tang, former
Gabrielle Giffords staffer Pam Simon, Arizona Department of Transportation Partnering
Administrator Teresa Welborn, Humane Society Chief Development Officer Hilary
Van Alsburg, insurance executive Edmund Marquez, John Byrnes from Community
Services Analysis LLC, University of Arizona College of Science Dean Joaquin
Ruiz, Dot Kret from DK Advocates, and Global MOVE Media CEO Lucy Howell.
