It’s one for the books… JTED’s Early Childhood Center at Canyon del Oro High School (CDO) is the first Career and Technical Education (CTE)preschoolstatewideto receive a five-star rating.
Therating comes from the First Things First (FTF) state initiative. FTF partners with parents and communities supporting early childhood education and health for Arizona children through age five.
In addition, FTF assesses all AZpreschools, not just CTE programs. There are only four otherswith a five-star rating.
“This has been a multi-year process that has taken us through five grueling assessments,” says Jennifer Atteberry-Pierpont, Early Childhood director/teacher and CTE department head. “This is a fantastic accomplishment.”
According to the FTF website:
- 90% of a child’s brain develops by age five
- 60% of Arizona children spend all or part of their day with caregivers other than their parents
- Children in quality early learning programs do better in school, have better relationships with classmates and are more likely to graduate
JTED delivers premier Career and Technical Education programs in partnership with business, industry and community stakeholders. All JTED programs are tuition-free to eligible students of high school age who reside within a member school district’s boundaries, and have not earned a high school diploma.
