START TUCSON and the Track Program

We are excited to announce the formation of “START Tucson llc” (Short Track Asphalt Racing Team Tucson).  START Tucson llc is being established as a 501c3 Non Profit organization.  START Tucson has been awarded the lease for the management and operation of Tucson Speedway formerly Tucson Raceway Park.

START Tucson llc has established a Board of Advisers representative of a cross section of the racing community inclusive of:  John Lashley, Keith Ames, Brad Corneliusen, Alan Levin, Jim Mather, Rick Durazo, Paul Banghart, and Dolores Zimmerman.

I would like to briefly highlight our Vision to include:  Phase I of the planned renovations, the initial plans to initiate and nurture our Community Relations within the local area as well as a few features of the Marketing and Advertising Program we are initiating.

Phase I of the track and physical plant improvements that will be completed prior to the first race are:

The race track will be professionally repaired and completely resurfaced

The track lighting, electrical, and PA systems will be repaired and upgraded

Rest room plumbing will be repaired and upgraded

Concession areas will be repaired and upgraded

Repair and upgrade the grandstands and fan areas

General property cleanup and landscaping will be done

We have the financial backing in place to complete the first phase of our proposal, with many more improvements planned to increase the tracks appeal.

It is our vision to restore Tucson Raceway Park to the premier asphalt short track racing venue in the Western United States. In addition to our weekly racing program, we envision hosting regional and national events.

We are excited about this venture, and are releasing this information in our efforts to continue building public support and to get the racing community as excited as we are for the return of asphalt racing to Tucson Raceway Park.

It is extremely important for START TUCSON to develop Family Friendly Entertainment at the pavement race track.  In part, we will accomplish this with attractive and affordable admission pricing providing for Family, Senior, Military, Children and group discounts right from opening night.  Members of the race track will receive admission discounts when their race divisions are not schedule to race.  In an effort to build our “Program of Attraction”, affordable and appealing Food and Beverage options will be available to the fans and race teams.   We will also provide safe and appealing activities for children and fans.

Our Marketing and Advertising plans will be the foundation for developing renewed fan base and increasing the number of race teams participating.  We recognize that TRP has become a two edge sword; one side is the positive history when NASCAR was involved and even dating back to the dirt track memories of the “old timers” and the other side of that sword that holds memories of recent disappointments including: promises made but not kept, poor car counts, cancelled races and just an overall feeling of racing in a week to week venue that could close anytime.  We have the initial burden to overcome the recent history and our marketing efforts will be directed to:  “Remember When….”   START TUCSON will have to demonstrate our dedication and resolve by “doing”.

How will we do this?  We will begin the old fashion way by getting out and meeting those who are supporting our efforts.  We will initiate meetings, work days and be available to groups to discuss our plans.  We will continue to utilize social media and communicate through our TRP Tucson and Tucson Speedway face book pages as well as with our Website: TucsonSpeedway.com.  Traditional advertising campaigns with Television and Radio commercials will be developed and blend with our Community Relationship building program.

Community Relationship building will be the responsibility of the members of the START TUCSON Advisory Board prior to opening of the track and will become a shared activity by everyone who enjoys the race program.  Our initial campaigns will be focused upon introducing pavement racing to Businesses, Civic Groups, Community Organizations, Youth Groups, Schools, and Car Clubs and to Non Profit Groups.  As the overall awareness grows throughout the community, we will initiate follow up activities and seek feedback to keep us on track.

We are in the process of developing networking relationships and reaching out to local businesses to develop marketing partners.
