Ron Norman Opening Night Super Late Model Winner!
Ron Norman and Loren Sheffield, were among the headliners in Saturday night’s Hawaiian Night Presented by Pizza Hut at Tucson Speedway, “The Action Track Built for Speed” by taking top honors in the Super Late Model and Pro Stock Action, respectively.
While Norman and Sheffield, took top honors in victory lane, other winners on the night included Paul Banghart returning to Late Model action, David Levitt in the Southwest Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists Modifieds, Jeff Czoka the Start Stock winner and in the Hornet class Kyle Milburg.
In Super Late Model competition, former champion Ron Norman of Tucson, raced from mid pack and ran second to Matt Levin, the Dash Winner, for 35 laps to capture the season opener, taking the checkered flag ahead of Matt Levin with Curtis Lansing, rookie Mariah McGriff and Alan Levin rounding out the top five.
Entering the night as one of the top competitors in the Pro Stock Division, Loren Sheffield battled with Jason Davis throughout the 25 lap feature with Davis finishing a strong second. Bill Welch was on his game finishing third followed by John Nahoopii and Cory Leon. The Start Stocks (Bombers) ran with the Pro Stocks and Jeff Czoka, from Phoenix for the victory finishing ahead of many of the Pro Stocks followed by Harry Fowler for a very respectable runner finish.
The Late Model Class joined the Super Late Models for the main event and former track champion, Paul Banghart, driving for Nickel Slot Racing took the checkers but was trading the lead with Don Dority with Dority finishing second and Brad Roush in third. Scott Strachan was leading the field until mechanical problems sidelined him for the night.
The Southwest Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists Modifieds, as always put on quite a show for the fans as the top five raced wheel to wheel and nose to tail throughout the 25 lap main event. David Levitt grabbed the lead and came home with the victory with Ned Champine, Bob Cramb, PJ Menga and Jeff Bennett
Kyle Milburg was the class of the Hornet field and he was followed to the finish line by Tucson Speedway Flagman, Tony Helm, Jamie Normand, fan favorite Allen Dowty and in fifth Ryan Pagano.
