All Good Things Must Come To An End..

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 26, 2011) – With the 44th Annual Western World Championships looming on the horizon, the winged Sprint Cars of the Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region take to Tucson’s 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval on Saturday night.

It marks the final stop of the season for the winged forces at USA Raceway before the season-ending Western World on November 17-19.

Leading the way into Saturday’s card is Las Cruces’ Rick Ziehl, who reeled off three consecutive wins at USA before Johnny Herrera finally put a halt to his streak in the most recent Tucson event on September 17.

Gunning for a fourth consecutive Southwest championship on the strength of a series’ best five wins in 13 events, Ziehl holds a 182-point advantage over Calvin Landis with 18-year-old Dalten Gabbard, Alamogordo’s Kyle McCutcheon and Joshua Williams rounding out the current top five in points.

The rest of the current top ten includes Lance Norick, Steve Stone, Jordan Stetson, Joey Chester and Joshua Hodges.

Since the season-opening Copper on Dirt in which Herrera and Shane Stewart topped combined National and Southwest features, Herrera and Ziehl have both posted three ASCS Southwest wins at USA with Landis also notching one win.

Saturday’s Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region action at USA Raceway is slated to go green at 6:45 p.m.

The ultra- competitve X-Mod division will return after fans witnessed a nail biter for the record books that ended with Rick Butler crossing the finish line just inches ahead of Brandon Farrington just 2 weeks ago.

The Western States Stock Car Series will also jon the fun led by point leader Michael Huffman and fellow Central Arizona Raceway vets Jason Harvil and Jody Henderson.

The Southwest Modlite Championship will too be decided as AJ Martin enters there final bout with a slim 5 point advantage over Nick Parker and just 10 more from third place runner Ricky Bobby.

The Young Guns of the ASCS2 will come to life as well this Saturday night at USA. Don’t miss the fun!

The 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales.  For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.

Wing Sprints Ace Johnny Herrera at USA Raceway Tonight!

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (August 20, 2011) – The winged Sprint Cars of the Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region shift back to Tucson’s USA Raceway with this Saturday night’s outing atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

While Johnny Herrera took advantage of an idle Lucas Oil ASCS National weekend to best the Southwest forces at Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park this past weekend, current Southwest points leader Rick Ziehl has been virtually unstoppable in recent winged action at USA Raceway.

Since Herrera posted a USA win on May 7, Ziehl has topped the last four ASCS Southwest events at the Tucson oval.

With the lasting run of success over the summer, the Las Cruces New Mexico based team of Ziehl’s has amassed a 194-point advantage in his quest for a fourth consecutive ASCSSouthwest championship.

Ziehl holds the current series lead over Calvin Landis, with Dalten Gabbard, Joshua Williams and Kyle McCutcheon rounding out the current top five.  The rest of the top ten includes Lance Norick, Steve Stone, John Carney II, Joey Chester and Jordan Stetson.

While Ziehl has his sights set on what would be a career high fifth straight USA winged wins, Herrera has every intention of spoiling that party before rejoining the National Tour just 6 days later for the Jesse Hocket/ Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

Johnny and the rest of the Lucas Oil ASCS National crew will return to Tucson in just two months for their season finale at the 44th Annual Western World Championships presented by Kronik Energy Drink on the 17th, 18th, and 19th of November.

Saturday’s Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region action will include Factory Stocks, X Mods and Hornets at USA Raceway and is slated to go green at 6:45 p.m.

The 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales.  For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.
