Whitwell Weighs in on Hutto’s Misfortune
Tucson, Arizona (September 13th, 2009) – RC Whitwell returned to USA Raceway’s victory lane for the eighth time in 2009 as he took advantage of a failing power plant of Daniel Hutto. Whitwell led the final two laps of the 25 lap feature event capturing the $1000 top prize.
Hutto took the point early and used the top side to gain an early lead as he kept momentum and pulled away from the field. The battle behind was fierce as Whitwell, Cody Alverez, Robert Adams, Chad Ayers and Nick O’Neil raced side by side on the super fast USA Raceway.
Hutto seemed unbeatable as he maintained his distance from the field driving through lapped traffic with perfection. However, he would have to relinquish the lead to second place Whitwell when his engine failed with only two laps remaining.
“Sometimes its better to have a little luck” commented Whitwell “He (Hutto) was really good all night until his engine blew up on the last couple laps, we got lucky”
Cody Alverez finished second to Whitwell making it his fourth consecutive top five finish with Robert Adams, Chad Ayers and Nick O’Neil rounding out the top five.
Rob Colclasure made it two in a row in as he drove from his sixth starting position to capture the Super Stock feature and added his name to the small list of repeat winners. Marty Hussak crossed the line second extending his points lead beating Larry Fredrickson and second place point sitter Terry Hill with Steven Ashcraft rounding out the top five.
Dalton Gabbard, Bud Grossbacker and Chad Stewart all added their name to the first time winners list at USA Raceway in 2009. Gabbard took home the cash in the Arizona Modified Midget feature while Grossbacker and Stewart captured Arizona Modlite and Desert Dwarf Car victories respectively.
Pastor Tim Olaf became the 2009 Racers for Christ “Fastor Pastor” as he used the top groove on his way to victory. Fifteen Pastors and Reverends took part in the feature event in front of a packed house of various church supporters.
