CopperonDirt

This report has been provided by Kevin Montgomery, co promoter  at USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ  – Bryan Clauson will triple his chances for a victory at USA Raceway’s 4th Annual Copper on Dirt as he enters the event with a seat for all three divisions. While he is among many drivers planning to do triple duty, Clauson is arguably the guy to beat in 2010.

Notably one of the hottest open wheel drivers in the country going into 2010, Clausen will look to resume his success of 2009 and likely gain distance from a field of some of the best open wheel racers in the country. Twenty year old Clauson has the accomplishments of a seasoned veteran after racking up an incredible year filled with more than 20 victories in Sprint Car and Midget competition including the Belleville Midget Nationals, USAC Indiana Midget Week Champion, The Night Before the Brickyard, The Turkey Night Grand Prix and the Glenn Howard Memorial to name a few.

The 2009 National Midget Driver of The Year will come to Tucson driving the familiar Corey Tucker owned Parker Stone Company/Esslinger Midget entry that has been a stable of success. Clauson will add to his arsenal by joining the stout RWB Sprint Car team fielded by Scott Benic and a very powerful Tony Stewart Silver Crown team. This will mark the first Copper on Dirt start for the Sprint car portion of the event and the first ever Silver Crown start for Clauson.

“I can’t wait for this event,” commented Clauson. “I am really excited to get down to Tucson and get the 2010 season under way.”

The 4th Annual “Copper on Dirt” featuring USAC Silver Crown, USAC National/CRA Sprint Cars and USAC National/Western States Midgets all taking part in a sensational racing spectacle at Tucson’s USA Raceway’s for two nights on February 19th and 20th marking USA Raceway as one of only two dirt track venues to host USAC’s Triple Crown all in one event.

As the 2010 racing season goes into to full swing, USAC championship hopefuls will make their way west to start the year off at one of the premier events of the season. More than a hundred of the nations top open wheel teams are anticipated to take part in the 4th Annual “Copper on Dirt” making this a must see event of 2010.

Jimmy_Mars_VL_1-9-10Jimmy Mars, Randy Korte and Kelly Boen

As reported by Ryan Neuharth Tucson, Ariz (January 9, 2010) Picking up right where he left off the 2009 season, Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI wheeled his BSB Manufacturing / Chevytown / Deppe Enterprises / Wiles Driveshafts / Baileigh Industries / Pro Power Racing Engines / MB Customs Chassis to the opening night feature win of the 2010 Wild West Shootout.

Mars would earn the pole for the night’s 30-lap, $3000 to win main event after starting last and winning his heat race, gathering the most passing points of the 52 competitors who filled the USA Raceway pit area. Mars would grab the lead at the drop of the green with six time SWDRA Champion Lonnie Parker, Jr taking second from his outside front row starting spot. John Anderson would slot third followed by Matt Aukland, and Randy Korte rounding out the top five.

Korte would jump from fifth to third on lap two as Kelly Boen swapped sixth with Rob Mayea and Billy Moyer made his way into the top 10 from twelfth. With five down Mars was quickly stretching his advantage as Parker, Jr and Korte battled high and low for the runner-up position while Heckenast, Jr now having cracked the top five. The races first caution would appear on lap six when Winnipeg, Manitoba driver Mike Balcean erupted in a cloud of smoke on the front stretch and ended his evening.

Mars lead the field back to green on the Delaware double file restart as Parker, Jr continued to hold off the charge of Korte. John Anderson still had a hold of the fourth position as Kelly Boen jumped from seventh to fifth and the series all-time winningest driver Terry Phillips was now 10th from 18th. The yellow would appear for the second time for a spinning Jeremy Payne on lap eight. On the restart, Korte made the move to second on lap nine as Boen now took the forth spot from Anderson and set his sights on the top three.

Terry Phillips was on the man on the move as the Springfield, MO pilot dispatched Matt Aukland on lap eight, Billy Moyer on lap nine and Heckenast, Jr on lap 10 to now find himself in seventh. That trio would race two and three wide for position as Boen now began to put serious heat on Parker, Jr for the number three spot. Boen would grab that spot on lap 13. Half way home Mars continued to lead followed by Korte, Boen, Parker, Jr, and Anderson rounding out the top five. A great four car battle for the sixth spot, now occupied by Phillips, was ragging as Moyer, Rob Mayea and Heckenast, Jr swapped seventh through ninth lap after lap.

Anderson and Parker, Jr would swap fourth twice on lap 16 and race side by side until Anderson finally secured that spot two circuits later, and Phillips moved Parker, Jr back another spot on lap 19 to now find his way into the top five with 10 to go. The battle was now on for sixth as both Moyer also found their way past Parker, Jr on lap 19 while Mayea and Heckenast, Jr staged their own personal battle to stay locked in the top ten with just ten laps remaining.

Mars began to encounter the back of the field as Boen moved ever closer to Korte and the two raced side by side to finish off the 20th circuit and begin lap 21. Boen would make the high side work to his advantage and was now in the lead chase position, slowly reeling in Mars as the top two picked their way through the slower lapped traffic. With just five to go Mars again stretched the advantage as Korte moved back in on Boen. Anderson, Phillips, Moyer, Heckenast, Jr, Parker, Jr and now Pat Doar from his 19th starting spot was ninth with Mayea rounding out the top ten.

Caution would appear once again on lap 28 for a slowing Lance Matthees, and again on the restart as Brad Looney and John Lowry founded themselves making contact and spinning in turn two. Moyer and Korte would jump to the outside on the restart and find it beneficial as Korte snagged second from Boen and Moyer jumped from sixth to fourth in a three wide fight with Anderson and Phillips. Up front it was all Jimmy Mars as he cruised to his first feature win of 2010 and his third career Wild West Shootout checker flag.

Former Wild West Shootout Late Model champion Pat Doar from New Richmond, Wisconsin survived several early event wrecks and then went on to dominate the Open Wheel Modified 25-lap feature event for his first career Wild West Shootout Modified win.

Veteran Sherman Barnett from El Paso, Texas ran away with the Super Stock main event.

Round 2 of the Wild West Shootout will fire up today at 4pm with the second night of full racing action. The best of the best in Super Late Models and Modifieds will tackle USA Raceway’s 3/8-mile clay oval for six days on January 9, 10, 13, 15, 16 and 17, with more than $150,000 in prize money to be distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. J HerreraWestern World Championships 2009 Schrader and Lasoski Headed to USA Raceway
Tucson, Arizona (October 31st, 2009) – With November just around the corner and two of the largest racing events of 2009 nearing, two racing icons confirm plans to compete at Tucson’s USA Raceway. Both drivers will vie for the top prize of $15,000 and the right to add their names to the prestigious list of past winners.

Kenny Schrader, 25 year NASCAR legend, stands on all sides of the racing fence making not only a lucrative career in the sport but a lifestyle that has been mimicked by some of the modern day greats. Schrader, in his words, only knows one thing and he knows it very well from team owner, track promoter to legendary race car driver.

His career started as a young boy racing go-carts and reached the pinnacle most racers can only dream of. Although he made it to the top, he has never lost sight of his roots as he will make the haul to Tucson’s USA Raceway to take part in the $15k to win 5th Annual Barnett Harley Davidson Wes Hurst Memorial.

Schrader, driving his own Federated Auto Parts/Phoenix Parker Store/O’Rielly Chevrolet entry, will join a long list of the best Modified drivers in the country all looking to take home the richest modified payday of 2009.

“We are delighted to come to USA Raceway and be a part of this race,” commented Schrader. “I would really like to thank Steve Stroud of the Phoenix Parker Store and Joe Morales of O’Rielly Chevrolet for stepping up and helping us get to Tucson. It will be a pleasure to have these guys on board for the Wes Hurst Memorial.”

The Wes Hurst Memorial, which takes place on the weekend following Thanksgiving, enters its 5th year and is anticipated to be the largest Modified event of 2009. The best of the best will tackle USA Raceway’s 3/8-mile clay oval for three days on November 27, 28 and 29, with nearly $100,000 in prize money to be distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. An unprecedented $15,000 top prize awaits the eventual winner as that name will be added to past champions that include Christy Georges, Richie Tosh, Tommy Weider and 2008 winner Terry Phillips.

Danny “The Dude” Lasoski will join Schrader in the trip to Tucson, however, he will be coming a week early. Lasoski will be looking to grab victory hardware and the $15,000 winners check as he will take part in the 42nd Annual KRONIK Energy Western World Championships presented by Old Tucson Studio’s.

Lasoski, 1991 Western World Champion, has earned a long and established resume that ranks him as one of the top sprint car drivers ever. Winning 4 Knoxville National Titles, 8 Knoxville Raceway Championships, Championships in the NST and WoO and all time Knoxville feature victory leader, Lasoski will be looking to capture his second Western World title to add to his long list of accomplishments.

The “Dude” will make his way to Tucson and attempt to pilot his Creason Pipeline Construction-Hoosier Tire JEI-Kisler into USA Raceway’s victory lane.

More than one hundred sprint cars will be expected to take part in what will be one of the biggest sprint car events in the country as drivers from all walks will look to add their name to prestigious list of winners.
