Let's see. For me, my high school years were in the early 80s. Like many others, I was discovering punk, like the Stooges, and Richard Hell. I held, and still hold The Clash, in very high esteem as they had the raw punk sound of the early 70s though I didn't hear them until 1979. The same goes for the LA band, X. John Doe's voice still gives me the shivers. A smidge of early Elvis Costello was also good for my "sensitive" teenage soul. The first time I heard the song, "Allison", I so wished I had been named that. I even remember getting grouchy with my mom over not being given a more "creative" name at birth. Being named after a grandparent seemed soooo old in my book, at the time.

I will never forget hearing the B 52's, "Rock Lobster" and stopping in my tracks. It was such a different sound. Plus, there was the local stuff, as I was listening to like Gentlemen Afterdark, and the Jetzons. (Oh dear, I can go on and on.)
Anyway, I don't recall not really liking a particular genre of music, though I have to say I wasn't a fan of Duran Duran, or all of their fans. Years later, as a gag gift, I got a CD of their hits, and darned if it didn't say in the car stereo for several months before I finally passed it on. Go figure.

Oh my azmouse you have got to send us a picture of you with your big hair!!!!!!!!!!! I did laugh at Barry Manilow, but a friend of mine talked me into seeing him in 1976 or 77 I forget and I wanted to wear a hat so no one would see me. And yeah the radio's back then were so funny. I had all sorts, including yes, the burger radio. I am not proud of it but sure wish I kept it.

Oh many I forgot the Door, and how dare I, I played the doors on guitar till my fingers bled. Yeah Sabino Canyon was too crowded, we laid low and picked a corner in the park. And I tell you I forgot KWFM and it was the best back then. Santana-Abraxas, for me is the classic of all classics. It is what is on my Ipod!

Wow, thanks for the flash back. I too remember the Senior skip day. We called it Our Lady of Sandy Hook Day.Sandy Hook is a Ocean Beach in NJ. Seniors would flock too on Senior skip day. I went to a Catholic High School but even the public schools called it Our Lady of Sandy Hook day.I listened to the same music you did, and love growing up with the music.
Seniors are still skipping school, I know my children did. I guess its a right of passage that as long as it doesn't get out of control, like an every day envent, no harm.
Thanks Tyler, really enjoyed the flash back.

Doors-L.A. Woman; Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here; Jethro Tull-Aqualung; Zep-Led Zep II-III; Foghat-Foghat, Energized; Santana-Abraxas; Grand Funk-E Plurbus Funk, Live; Stones-Sticky Fingers-Goats Head Soup; anything by the Animals or Hendrix. Laughed at? Disco, some of the pop crap. We had an eclectic fm station called KWFM. The dj's played whatever they felt like playing. Rolling Stone called them one of the top 10 radio stations. But hey, we got hip-hop now, so I don't miss it. ;) BTW-our senior ditch day was traditionally spent at upper Sabino Canyon. You could drive up there then. Driving back down was another story... :)
