Dear Mr. Woods,

You ask in your January 9, 2010 article, "Where have all the hippies gone?" Well, the woman standing behind the "Love Not War" placard, for one, is sleeping upstairs as I type. What is the source of the picture? I did a Google image search on "hippies in 1960" and found this photo, which looked remarkably like my wife, Caroline, around the time we were getting together (we married in 1968), so I copied it and sent it to her. Zap! She recognized her roommate, to her left in the photo! Little did she know that she had become an icon of the '60s in photo archives around the world! The picture shows Caroline Kastle McEuen and, to her left, Lynn Douty. It was taken (by whom??) in Philadelphia in the summer of 1967, the "Summer of Love."

Cheers,
