Leo Fender was a neighbor of ours in Fullerton, CA. when I was growing up. He was born in the same hospoital that I was. He was years ahead of me at Fullerton High School and his factory was on the same street as my mom's printing business was located on Raymond St.
I remember in 1958, Leo was having cash flow problems, and owed my mom $375 dollors for some printing. He offered her a new StratoCaster guitar instead of the cash . . . but she needed the cash too, and turned Leo down. OUCH!
I think that in the early 1960's he sold to CBS for $12 Million Dollars, and quality went right into the dumpster.
