Where Are They Now?

by on May. 03, 2010, under Life

where are they now retroflectionI see it everywhere, the “where are they now” pictures and sometimes I giggle, sometimes, I go wow, and most times I say “who cares! I guess the truth is, we all have this curiosity of where people we grew up with are today. Are they alive? Are they unemployed? Are they drug addicts, divorced, jailed? Our morbid curiosity seems to get the best of us all and it got me thinking…

davythen now Where are some of the celebrities I grew up that did not die from a drug overdose?  that are still alive? Well let’s take Davey Jones.  I can’t imagine this one dying from an overdose. My sister had the biggest crush on him, and I thought he was an over-rated teen idol. Still, because of the pictures that plastered the walls in my sisters room, and the fact that I had seen him in concert with my sister, it made me wonder where this teen idol is today. Well he is newly married as of 2009, he has 4 daughters, spends most of his time in Florida, near Miami, with his horses and he still sings and performs. Perhaps he is still knocking 50 something year old women’s sock off.

BRANDONI had a thing for the Courtship of Eddie’s Father. I am unsure if it was that cute little theme song “people let me tell ya bout my best friend,” or if it was Brandon Cruz who played little Eddie. I was fascinated by the questions he could come up with and just his young sense of innocents. So where is this cute cuddly little boy at today? image he got into punk and began singing for bands and has fronted Dr. Know for many years. He currently is touring Europe with The Dead Kennedys as their singer. Go figure!

dennisAs a kid I loved to watch Denise the Menace. Jay North always was getting in trouble, most times just by accident, but as a young kid who got in trouble and got away with it most days. I could relate to this accident prone menace. It seems our little trouble maker decided to join the Navy and after that join the Mormon church. Today he is a prison guard somewhere in Florida. I would have always thought he would have gone off and become a rebel of sorts and making movies about kids in trouble. Opps I was way off with this one, and a tad dissapointed.

eric Finally, I have to talk about a musician that fascinated me growing up. Eric Burdon of the Animals. I was fascinated by this singer. Some people called him a black singer trapped in a white mans body, I just called him Eric Burdon and loved his songs like Sky Pilot, Monterey, Please Don’t Let me be Misunderstood and San Franciscan Nights. He always looked messed up on some sort of drug of the week and surprised tht he is still alive and well. In fact, he still performs and from what I can see from some video’s on Youtube, he still has a great set of pipes.

It’s funny, the people we wonder where they are today. I am surprised I selected the ones that I did, however, when I reflected on my childhood these were a few of the folks that came up for me. What about you? Who do you wonder about?

Kristy McNichol and her brother…was it Jimmy?
Joey Heatherton, who my Dad loved.
    Sly Stone?
Mikey from the cereal commercials? (he likes it, hey Mikey!)
The little twin girls that played Tabitha on ‘Bewitched’?
What about the lead singer from ‘The Tubes’?
