The Beatles on ITunes

“I heard the news today” that people could finally download the Beatles music on ITunes. Wow I wonder what The Beatles would say? While I am sure the living have no problem, would John and George roll over in their grave? Well probably not, but they might just laugh and say what took them so long and it got me thinking…

The Beatles have got to be my all time favorite band. Outside the fact that they really changed music, the change in their music was amazing, they went from I Want to Hold Your Hand and Twist and Shout to Hey Jude and Let it Be. They went from pop rock to sort of a psychedelic sort of music. They went from meaningless love songs to meaningful messages to the world.

The Beatles caught my attention when they first hit the air. I was just a kid but knew they were something special and that I would be a fan. As each song came out, so did my guitar as I skillfully tried to learn each lick. I could not get enough of these four chaps.

Every time an album came out, I was there and when the cassettes, 8-tracks and reel to reel came out as I was making sure I had that album in every form of media.

So I’m not so sure I understand what the big hoopla is with ITunes. I have been listening to The Beatles on my IPod every since I had an IPod. Years ago I found a free mp3 burner and burnt all my albums to the computer. Last year my cousin gave me thirty-five Beatles albums as mp3′s for a Christmas gift. Some were re-mastered, some where greatest hits, not so greatest hit, interviews I mean I have a folder with 35 Beatles albums at my finger tips to listen to on my IPod or computer.

I did not have to wait for ITunes to offer me the Beatles. Like always even as a child if I wanted something in a specific media, I would find a way. As a kid, we would record our albums onto a cassette and stick it in our Walkman. As an adult, we simply burn the CD that we owned or rented from the library onto the computer and convert it to MP3.

But Apple is ranting and raving that they have “unveiled” The Beatles on ITunes. Hmmm, I feel sorry for those who really thought they had to wait for Apple to get the Beatles on their IPod. Hey but if you are one of those people who really thought you had to wait, then go for it. You can go to Apple and pay and simply click and the group’s 13 re-mastered studio albums for $12.99, or as double albums for $19.99 can be yours.

As for me, hmmm I guess I am just ahead of my time, or is Apple a little behind the times? One would have to wonder.

This is only a “big deal” for Apple Inc. As you point out, any Beatles afans have laready purchased their tunes, without waiting for Steve Jobs permission.
The reason it has been a “big deal” for Apple is that Apple (the computer)  had a trademark dispute with Apple ( the Beatles record company).
They had reached an agreement which basically said that Apple-the-computer did not conflict with Apple-the-music-distribution-company, and then years later when Apple-the-computer-company started selling music they broke that agreement.
It has taken them this long to straighten it all out.

Yes this is pretty much motivated by Apple no doubt that Beatle fans have the music on their IPods listening and enjoying. And indeed you said it right on, we do not need Steve’s permission to listen to our favorite oldies.
      Thanks

I think this is the first time I’ve posted a comment to an article – maybe the second.  But after reading this, I have to admit that I am completely perplexed.   I have no idea why you would be so negative and I don’t understand what your motivation is.   I think this article is kind silly and childish and would be embarassed by it if I were you.  Who really cares that you found ways to convert your Beatles library into MP3 format?  Does it make you a better fan than someone who didn’t do that?  Does it not occur to you that not every Beatles fan has the time or knowhow or resources to do the same and that we might appreciate the convenience of it finally being available on iTunes?  And why would you take issue with that?   Is there skin off your back?

Truly, all I can do is furrow my brow in wonderment over what your point and motivation is with this article.   Your time would have been better spent putting on your big boy pants and focusing on things other than feeling sorry for people who really couldn’t care less about how or when you got your Beatles music.

Wow what memories 8 tracks. Yeah I agree people should be able to figure out how to get the Beatles on their IPOD, really all they have to do is google it because it  sure doesn’t take a rocket scientist ot Mr Steve Jobs to hear the best band on your IPOD.  I never had an 8 track but I dug my groovy walkman!

    • retroflections

Oh yes the walkman I have listened to many of  Beatles on that machine as well.  I just got one on ebay last month for like 5 bucks..lol
Yeah what you want to listen to on your Ipod is your choice, not other people’s choice and that is the great thing about today’s technology:) Thanks for reading Tom

Beatles on i-Tunes in same week as a book reveals the Beatles booked for a Church Hall in England in ’63 for paltry $390 never happened because local folk would not hire promoter a hall!
Same small town had welcomed Rolling Stones (cost $78) just weeks previous!
How many places said Rolling Stones YES, Beatles NO.
Its all in ‘Tear My Heart’ by Cary Vincent avail Amazon.
