I never LOVED Halloween as a kid. I guess I never understood the whole concept, but getting the candy was good enough for me.
when I bought my house I thought "Yay! I'll get lots of trick or treaters" since I had moved to a small town in a family neighborhood.... I got two. The next year I was in Hawaii and it was reported back to me by my doggie sitter that they got 5. I am hopeful that this year I will get 10! I put Fall decorations out along with some Halloween themed stuff. Hopefully that will draw the kids out. I love seeing all the costumes and I like knowing that the kids are out having fun! My dogs on the other hand are not thrilled by the door bell ringing all the time, but they get over it and its not traumatic for them.

Sounds like my neighborhood. As far as you can see there will be goblins and every creature one would expect to see on Halloween. Laughter galore. Fun, fun, fun.

Many years ago I used to live on the East side. We got our normal amount of trick or treaters. Around 25 years ago we moved into my wifes grandmothers house in Sam Hughes. They had been there since 1928. We noticed the large amount of trick or treaters! Espicially the number of Hispanic kids who were brought in from the South side. They were ALL dressed up and their parents were letting them take part in something that was truely American. Now thats assimulation!! It is a shame that their neighborhoods were not safe enough. But we were happy that they knew all about our neighborhood. And their parents wanted them to have te experience.
We also gpt a lot of U of A students...again all of them ALL dressed up. It was almost they were reliving their childhoods! They too were having a great time and were polite.
We would have over 500 kids come to our front door! We made sure that we had plenty of candy!
This is from an old right wing Republican who lived in Barrio Volvo.

I get more trick or treaters here than anyplace I've lived in decades - always run out of candy :)

Tucson really has a great Halloween - places I have lived recently are so afraid that their kids candy will be poisoned or something that in a lot of places it doesn't exist.

They move it from the 31st to a "weekend" if it falls during the week, and hold school sponsored "parties" and 4 pm so the kiddies can be in before dark.

Tucson deserves credit for maintaining a great tradition.
