Sawyer Says: Animal Talk - Rynski\’s dog Sawyer brings you animal news, views and furry friends fun (full disclosure: this is really written by Ryn)

Nobody asks how Mr. Angel got his name. Just glancing at the 8-year-old pup explains it all. Although we had to wonder how this pooch got so durn cute.

When I posed the cuteness question to Mr. Angel’s owner and faithful TC.com reader Eric Heithaus, he had to whisper the response.

“Mr. Angel hates it when I tell that story,” he explained in hushed tones over an e-mail. (You can hush tones over an e-mail by making the font really small and italicized.)

“I’m told in heaven, where all the cats and dogs are made, they dip the pets in the ‘vat of cuteness’ (VOC),” Heithaus wrote. “They dip them for one second and then send them to earth and other planets. Mr. Angel accidentally fell in VOC at closing time Friday and was left in over a three-day weekend. That’s what I have been told.”

Despite Mr. Angel’s somewhat perhaps less-than-macho name, the “Mr.” part clears up the pup’s gender and Heithaus says he’s never had anyone make fun of the angelic moniker.

He does add, however, a pet name for the pet came out of the Mr. Angel title.

“We have found when said very fast, ‘MrAngel’ sounds like ‘Strangle,’ which is his nickname.”

Sawyer doesn’t even want to look at Mr. Angel’s photos as he gets miffed when others are so small, fuzzy and cute. He got especially huffy when he learned Mr. Angel loves to play fetch, and actually lets go of the ball when he brings it back, and enjoys tug of war without ripping the rope in half and hiding it under a bush.

Phoebe said Mr. Angel looks likes a fine playmate and incredibly loyal companion, although she’d still rather play with the latches on the rat cage in her attempt to break in and eat my pet rodents.

Follow Sawyer on Twitter or he’ll kidnap Mr. Angel and hide him beneath a bush.

Mr. Angel is so cute, he looks like a toy! I mean, all that cuteness can’t be real.

  • Rynski

I know, I know!! That’s why I had to ask how Mr. Angel got so cute. He DOES look like a toy. And much cuter than my dismember-able plush zombie toys, too.

Poodles are so cute when not clipped. I never could figure out why people want them to look like walking h’orderves. Cool pooch Eric!

  • Rynski

    Walking hors d’oevres!! hahahah.

Sorry about the spelling faux pas Rynski. :)

  • Rynski

I was laughing at the thought of little hot dog shapes on poodle legs, not the misspelling.

Sometimes I wonder what I’m missing.  Apparently I did not inherent the gene(s) that allow me to determine “cute” vs. “not cute”.  Maybe it’s that pesky Y chromosome I carry.  I know that I hear the phrase “that’s cute” from my wife and daughter not infrequently and, when I do, I look at, study and try to ascertain the qualities of the object of their interest that qualifies it or him or her as ”cute”, but it remains a mystery to me.  I believe that my failing is that the determination of “cute” is not an intellectual one, but an emotional one.

C’mon leftfield, I know you have a softer side. I bet your daughter’s a cutie, and every baby is cute.
You’ve never looked at someone or something, lightly tilted your head to one side, and said, “Ahhhhh” because of the cuteness?!?

  • radmax

Lefty, what adjective would you substitute for cute? I’m curious. That doggie pic of  him in the basket can be found in the dictionary under ‘cute’.

  • radmax

    I know Rynski….sigh. :)

    Lefty,
Perhaps if you simply memorize a list of attributes that make something “cute,” you’ll be able to fake it in the future.
Here’s some help. “Cute” things are those that are:
    big-eyed and bushy tailed
    soft and cuddly
huggable and squishy (but not just squishy or you could be referring to a bacteria-laden sponge)

  • leftfield

I appreciate the help.  I’m always working on it.  It sounds like at least those things that elicit care-taking behavior can be considered “cute”.

Now THAT is a cute dog, Eric! And I should know as I have a super cute dog myself, the incredibly adorable Macaroon who can be seen in action on youtube— licking out a yogurt carton, eating peanut butter and falling in love in the park– Search youtube on my user name kellabeck and those videos and others– butterflies! — will come up.
Do you have any videos, Eric? I’d love to see Mr. Angel in action!
