I appreciate the help. I'm always working on it. It sounds like at least those things that elicit care-taking behavior can be considered "cute".

Lefty,
Perhaps if you simply memorize a list of attributes that make something "cute," you'll be able to fake it in the future.
Here's some help. "Cute" things are those that are:
big-eyed and bushy tailed
soft and cuddly
huggable and squishy (but not just squishy or you could be referring to a bacteria-laden sponge)

Lefty, what adjective would you substitute for cute? I'm curious. That doggie pic of him in the basket can be found in the dictionary under 'cute'.

C'mon leftfield, I know you have a softer side. I bet your daughter's a cutie, and every baby is cute.
You've never looked at someone or something, lightly tilted your head to one side, and said, "Ahhhhh" because of the cuteness?!?

Sometimes I wonder what I'm missing. Apparently I did not inherent the gene(s) that allow me to determine "cute" vs. "not cute". Maybe it's that pesky Y chromosome I carry. I know that I hear the phrase "that's cute" from my wife and daughter not infrequently and, when I do, I look at, study and try to ascertain the qualities of the object of their interest that qualifies it or him or her as "cute", but it remains a mystery to me. I believe that my failing is that the determination of "cute" is not an intellectual one, but an emotional one.
