Sawyer Says: Animal Talk - Rynski\’s dog Sawyer brings you animal news, views and furry friends fun (full disclosure: this is really written by Ryn)

Animal slaughter seems to be the name of the game lately, this time with a cow shot dead in Bonita.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered by the Humane Society of the United States for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the responsible parties.

The cow, which was most likely minding its own business on the privately owned Sierra Bonita Ranch property, was slain sometime between Nov. 11 and 13, according to a news release from the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

The cow carcass was found along a dirt road leading to the property’s Martin Ranch, about 100 miles northeast of Tucson.

“This is a crime, not the act of a hunter or sportsman. Incidents like this complicate our efforts to ensure access to hunting areas through private lands,” said Raul Vega, Tucson Game and Fish’s acting regional supervisor.

I’d say so. There’d be no way in heck I’d trust folks armed with guns to traipse through my land, especially if they decide to kill cows or other wildlife off the land, like those poachers in Willcox.

Game and Fish urges anyone with information to call the Department’s Operation Game Thief Hotline at (800) 352-0700. Callers may remain confidential upon request.

wb-logolilWhat do you think?

Exactly when did society go wrong – or has it always been a mess?

What would you do if you saw someone killing off your animals on your land?

    Terrible story.

I have a huge book of nothing but newspaper clippings from some of the first newspapers in the United States.
Trust me, it’s always been this bad, we just didn’t used to have the access to the information we do now.
Serial killers (not yet called that) child predators, Mom’s killing their children, it was all in there like it is today.

wow. i was hoping one of my former professors was right – he said  society went to hell when chivalry died during WWII (although others have argued that chivalry died way before that)…hey! i just got my dating blog topic…stay tuned!

there is no excuse for this behavior. i believe this was an intentional act and nto accidental. a bovine looks nothing like any game animal.

as for punishment, jsut leave them with the sportsmen and women, or the ranchers, that suffer from this type of stupidity, for just 24 hours. let those who suffer loss, decide the punishment.
