Butterfly Magic Is Here Again!by Jim Gressinger on Oct. 02, 2013, under Southern Arizona Gardens, Things To Do With The Kidz
The butterfly pavilion at Tucson Botanical Gardens opened yesterday for the 9th season. I observed four things while there in the afternoon. First, they have a couple hundred butterflies of amazing variety. Second, walking among all these butterflies is a magical experience. They don’t call them flying flowers for nothing.
Third, for the sake of these delicate creatures, the butterfly pavilion is very humid. And fourth, butterflies are very hard to photograph well. Yet the others who were there in butterfly heaven with me yesterday had their iPhones in hand and were clicking away to their great delight. You can photograph them in flight but all you’re likely to get is a blurry image of a flutterby. You have to wait ’til they settle on a flower to feed in order to capture a crisply focused picture that shows the extraordinary color & texture of their wings.
If you’re in search of Things To Do With Kids, we highly recommend this exhibit. The young children I saw here were totally enthralled.
After leaving the butterfly pavilion I strolled around the grounds for a while. Every time I visit Tucson Botanical Gardens, I re-discover its serenity & beauty hidden in the middle of a bustling city.
Butterfly Magic is open daily from 9:30 AM to 3 PM. Entrance is included in the general admission price.
