It isn’t easy to take the circle a day after throwing a no-hitter, and somehow one-up your own performance.
But that’s exactly what Dallas Escobedo did Saturday, tossing a one-hit shutout as No. 5 Arizona State defeated Georgia 2-0 in the Tempe Regional at Farrington Stadium.

Dallas Escobedo does her best to not get flustered in the circle. But after giving up two runs in the first inning to San Jose State on Friday, thanks to a walk, a hit batter and a costly two-run error, the junior right-hander couldn’t help but feel a little frustrated.
That frustration didn’t knock her off her game, however, as Escobedo shut down San Jose State from there to throw the first postseason no-hitter in Arizona State softball history. No. 5 ASU came from behind to defeat San Jose State 5-2 at Farrington Stadium in the Sun Devils’ first game of the Tempe Regional.

PHOENIX — If Paul Goldschmidt continues punishing opposing pitching like he is — the Diamondbacks first baseman hit his 10th home run of the season Monday against the Braves — then pretty soon teams are going to start taking the bat out of his hands and daring someone else — anyone else – to beat them.
Goldschmidt has been on fire hitting third for the Diamondbacks lately, and it appears he may staying in that spot for the foreseeable future. Manager Kirk Gibson revealed Monday that second baseman Aaron Hill — who mostly hit third before going on the disabled list in mid-April with a broken left hand — is not progressing well from the injury and still does not have a timetable for his return.

There was anticipation in the air Sunday at the Sheraton hotel in Tempe, as Arizona State’s players and staff gathered for the team’s end-of-season banquet and waited to see where they would be seeded during the NCAA Softball Selection Show on ESPNU.

With the sour taste of a disappointing weekend in Tucson still in their mouths and the Pac-12 championship no longer within their grasp, Arizona State’s players must now turn their focus to finishing the regular season strong and gearing up for what they hope is another long playoff run.
