Sean Miller aboard the ship to nowhere – yikes!

by on Feb. 25, 2010, under Sports

Is there really a need to go into detail about the game Arizona played  on Thursday night?

Really?

Arizona suffered its second worst loss of the season in falling to California 95-71 in Berkeley, Calif.

Enough said.

There was even a point in head coach Sean Miller’s postgame comments that had him saying he didn’t feel “there was a lot left’’ in his team. That’s saying a lot. He did follow that up with he didn’t feel the team has given up or that there wasn’t a way the team could “rekindle’’  what has seemingly been lost.  But with Arizona losing five of six in the last three weeks it doesn’t look like that will happen.

Welcome aboard the Titanic – shrimp or lobster? By Arizona’s standards 13-14 overall and 7-8 in the Pac-10 Conference is reason for fans to call in sick on Friday. Miller was right in saying this week the NIT will be hard to get into if UA continues to sputter down the stretch. On Thursday night as UA was heading around the first lap of four regular-season games, it missed the starting gun then caught up (if you consider being down by eight compared to being down by 24) before faltering midway through the second half.

Jamelle Horne was a non-factor (big surprise there) and Nic Wise was again not even close to being the best player on the court. He finished with seven points, hitting 2 of 8 shots.

“He doesn’t have that spark that he once did,’’ Miller said. “We need to take a look at trying to be real smart with him in practice so he can regain that form he used to have. He’s playing very hard but the ball isn’t not going in.’’

Nothing is working for UA and hasn’t in some time. No magic moments. Not a whole lot of anything.

“We don’t have a lot of confidence,’’ Miller said. “Really for the last couple of days in practice you could sense that our guys are a little bit beaten down.’’

Saturday is another game. You can pre-order your squid or eel this time. The Titanic will take time to capsize.

Come on, everyone new this would be a transition year with a bunch of talented but unseasoned freshmen.  We’re lucky we’re on our way up, not down as your “Titanic” reference would indicate.  The media pundits are tiring and especially in this town, spoiled.  We enjoyed a run that very few programs and fans have the pleasure of experiencing.  With the exception of the slow down games some Pac 10 schools are playing, the games have been entertaining and exciting.  Yes, it would have been nice to win more, but these kids are talented and are not going to be the one and done brand of player we’ve had to endure in recent years. The best to Coach Miller and his team,
    Bear Down!

I wouldn’t call them media pundits in that Cow Town, but most defenitely 2nd-rated sports HACKS. lmao  But then again, what does one expect from a desert town, as well as state which votes Right-Wing Republican. lol

As for CATFAN, I totally disagree with one point of yours. For instance, Lute Olson inherited an ugly, ugly team, which only won ONE PAC-10 game the previous season, and won a grand total of four games.

Whereas in stark contrast, Miller has ” three “ players who played significant minutes in a Sweet-16 game last season. That experience alone should be worth at least 3 more Wildcat victories.

I’ll take this to my death bed, but something happened to this Wildcat squad after their double-digit lost in The Palouse. And they haven’t been the same since then.

CollegeHoopsZealot, thanks for the note from one of the Hacks in the his cow town. Could you point me to a cow? Haven’t seen one in this town in, well, forever. I’d send you my resume but CollegeHoopsZealots probably don’t do the hiring or much of it. By the way, it’s double-digit loss and not lost. Just an FYI.
And I’m not sure there were many sports writers hacks – Gimino and I, included – who thought this team was going to be any good. Better than they were? Maybe. Good? I don’t think so.
Rivera, The Hack via Cow Town USA. Maybe you meant Cactus Town.
