We are not the first people to exploit Tumamoc. Eight centuries ago the people who lived at the huge St. Mary’s site at the base of the hill built numerous terraces and grew a bountiful crop of agave. The agave provided many things for them, food, sewing materials and building supplies. To the northwest of the hill is a long ridge, or what is left of it, which at one time featured a dozen or so subterranean roasting pits that were use to process the agave stalks into a sweet, complex carbohydrate food source. Development has destroyed most of the pits over the years. Last time I looked I believe I saw two or three of the rock-lined pits left. I have included a photo of a similar excavated pit from Mexico.

Outsourced postions brought about a lack of jobs for welfare and alike individuals such as jails and more…no where to apply every week. How can one apply to nothing! Only recently, where I live, have I seen as many as thirty jobs that half of which anyone with a high school education could apply for. This sounds to me, like something President Obama and his changes have helped to change to the better.
You are correct…don’t blame the victims…Thank you for your comments.

I took your advice and Googled “Obama guts welfare reform legislation”.From the first page of results were hits from rightsidenews, dailycaller, rushlimbaugh.com, heritage.org, hotair.com, etc. The one source I would read was washingtonpost.com, but even that turned out to be a right wing blooger. But even she admitted that “Obama guts welfare reform legislation” was in fact “the Obama administration announced this week that it is opening up waivers to states from the work requirements contained in welfare reform”. Hardly “gutting” anything, and I thought allowing states more flexibility in implementing federal mandates was a cherished conservative/”centrist” ideal?

Kudos for saying what was on my mind, Mr. Serengeti! People like the author are so clueless they’d give Anne Frank a drum set for Hanukkah and then complain when she didn’t play it. Demanding people seek jobs that no longer exist in return for public assistance is optimistic at best and asinine in the extreme.

When you said Clinton administration’s “signature act” I thought you were talking about DADT or DOMA. It was an administration with so many “signature acts” in need of undermining that it is taking a while to get rid of all of them.

Your phD failed you in that you have missed the completely different economic paradigm that we are living under now. There are simply no jobs out there! They have been outsourced in the decade since Clinton and you can thank bubba and W for that! Millions of folks that were never on welfare have joined the ranks. We are in deep trouble! Stop blaming the victims.
