McIlroy is not Tiger, or national media hold your horses

Just stop it!

I am talking to all the talking heads in the media who keep wondering if Rory McIlroy is the next Tiger.

C’mon, it’s lazy journalism and I can say that because I’ve been hosting a drive time radio sports show the past two weeks.

They are like Pavlov’s Dogs. Anytime a young athlete does something impressive, we have to compare him to the past greats.

Guess what? McIlroy has won ONE major. One. Tiger Woods has won 14 and became an international icon.

McIlroy is not the next Tiger. Kobe is not the next Michael Jordan. Sydney Crosby is not the next Wayne Gretzky.

There will never be another Tiger Woods. There will never be another Michael Jordan and there will never be another Wayne Gretzky. (more…)

LeBron lacks the killer instinct, or Kidd’s last laugh

Somewhere M.J. is shaking his head. Somewhere Kobe is chuckling. Somewhere Russell is counting his rings and looking confused at the screen.

Three of the greatest winners in NBA history know LeBron is not one of them. Not yet, and if he does not make some fundamental changes to his game, he never will be.

Never mind that Dirk Nowitzki has outscored him 52-11 in the fourth quarter, including an 8-2 advantage in game five. That is an issue, a huge issue, but not the worst part of it.

The issue is that James lacks a killer instinct, especially when it comes to exploiting a weakness. (more…)
