Southern Arizona’s economy is relatively robust and not seriously in need of a few more manual labor mining jobs.

The citizens of Pima County don’t need to trade the natural beauty of the area for a few mine laborer jobs lasting only as long as the mine produces. It will take tens of centuries to repair the scar on the land bartered for a few temporary jobs, The homeowners adjoining the traffic routes in and out don’t need lowered property values and the sound and vibrations of mine trucks day and night. The mine will use water that would otherwise be available for farming or home usage, and mining takes a LOT of scarce desert water. The people don’t want it, the only ones that want it are those with financial ties and something to gain. The minimal number of jobs will have a negligible impact on the local economy. The biggest beneficiaries will be the mine and their stockholders. Above ground open pit mines are filled in back east, why aren’t they required to be filled in here in AZ? Copper mines in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are underground mines with no open pit mining. Why isn’t Rosemont required to do their digging underground and preserve the natural beauty of the environment. Once the land is destroyed it is gone forever, none of us here will ever see it fixed, nor will our children’s children’s children.
