Palin says no to Quran burning then follows up with a xenophobic remark

Even Sarah Palin is getting involved with the wacko pastor who wants to burn the Quran on 9/11.

Sarah Palin added her name Wednesday to a growing list of national politicians asking a Florida pastor to reconsider his plans to burn the Quran on Sept. 11.

“People have a constitutional right to burn a Quran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation…” Palin wrote on Facebook.

I was actually about to say I respected Palin for these words, but you may have noticed the ellipsis above.  This was her whole comment:

“People have a constitutional right to burn a Quran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation — much like building a mosque at ground zero,” Palin wrote on Facebook.

Of course the fact that what was going to be built is neither a mosque, nor is it at ground zero seems to be lost of most right-wingers.

Then when a mosque in Tennessee gets burned down the following week as a result of arson, no blame rests upon the demagogues spreading fear and hatred of what is foreign to them.

Things like Islam, thinking for yourself, and evolution, just to name a few…

It gets lost in the truthiness.

truthiness  (ˈtruːθɪˌnəs)  — n   informal  (of a belief, etc) the quality of being considered to be true because of what the believer wishes or feels, regardless of the facts

A word about that so-called “mosque at Ground Zero”:  It’s got a place to pray, sure, but it is designed to be more of a community center.  But what’s real important here is that it’s being sponsored by the Sufis.  The Sufis are the “mystics” and they are pacifists.  Look up “Sufism”.
Sunnis, Shiites, Sufis . . . they’re all different.  If Christians have different sects, why can’t the American Taliban recognize the differences in muslims?

Personally I am getting very tired of so much of the “news” being about religious nutjobs screaming at each other. I really don’t care what they do and I just wish that we would all try to ignore them as much as possible.
Giving them attention is exactly what they want.
