BANNED in TUSD!

TUSD board member Adelita Grijalva says it herself.

We are not only banning books, but we are also banning pictures in TUSD.

Yes, she uses the words “banning books.”

Pedicone and his Orwellian press releases say the books are not banned, but Adelita is Pedicone’s boss, and she says they are.

She describes this process of choosing which books to be banned in the video above taken the Saturday after MAS was banned.

Adelita Grijalva: TUSD school board knows it is violating federal desegregation court order

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Mari Herreras from the Tucson Weekly has published a letter from Steve Leal that addresses the Catch-22 that TUSD is in.

TUSD has a racism problem, and the people running TUSD fail to accept that, they ignore federal court orders to stop it, and continue to make things worse under Pedicone’s tenure as superintendent.

The Ninth District Court-appointed special master is in Tucson examining Tucson Unified School District and it’s failed desegregation plan. Former Tucson city councilman Steve Leal recently shared his perspective asking “How will TUSD be made to do now what they historically have shown that they do not care about and have refused to remedy?”:

Going along with this theme, TUSD board member Adelita Grijalva was asked after the MAS ban if the board even discusses the deseg order, and if they knew they would be violating it when they banned the MAS classes.

Her response was shocking.

The rest of the board accepted that it is in violation of so many aspects of the desegregation order that… well… why start worrying about violating federal court orders now?
