VIDEO: Ethnic Studies attorney Richard Martinez challenges Mark Stegeman, updates on TUSD book ban

by on Jan. 23, 2012, under Headline news

If TUSD forbids MAS teachers from using a book, but lets other teachers use the book, then technically TUSD hasn’t banned a book.

Richard Martinez, lead attorney for HB2281 lawsuit, calls out Mark Stegeman at DGT.

But it has. It banned them in a racist way, only for Mexican American Studies teachers and their students.

So perhaps what TUSD did could be termed a “racist book ban” targeted at Mexican Americans.

Save Ethnic Studies attorney addresses some of the facts behind the banning of knowledge and books for Chicano students at Monday’s DGT luncheon. He also calls out Mark Stegeman for a public debate on the facts.

Will Mark Stegeman accept, or continue to hide behind SALC’s editorial board at the Arizona Daily Star, printing whatever Pedicone puts out (without critically thinking or challenging the former SALC Vice-President) against the classes and books that teach critical thinking?

I have been reading your rants about oppression, racism and the rest. If  you really want to teach separatism, why don’t you try doing it the American way. Start a charter school. I don’t want to pay for your agenda. But, if you really want to secure a place in the underclass by teaching inferiority, go get your  own school. That is possible in this great country.

Mike, do you really feel qualified to tell us what we need to do?
