The name may say Little Cafe, but Jethro’s diner packs a wallop. That is why Tucson Biz Beat not only salutes this locally owned diner. In fact, it tips its hat off and does a standing ovation for Jethros Little Cafe located at 8735 E Broadway Blvd.
I have seen Jethro’s there on and off for a while, but resisted going in. I now know why, it is simply bad for my health. I say that in a good way. This diner serves up everything with one thing in mind, the finest quality, great taste, and big portions. Owner and trained chef Greg Seader will tell you repeatedly how important getting the right ingredient for the right price is.
I have to tell you, he has it mastered. He has an affordable half-pound burger made from the top quality Angus beef and each bite will back that up. If the bite doesn’t tell you, you can bet Greg will because he is proud of his affordable burger. I have to admit, I pay ten bucks for a burger that does not even compare to his. “I only order good meat.” he says, “and charge a fair price.”
Their burgers are great, however, I must say, they have the BEST biscuits and gravy. I have tasted way too many in my lifetime as my parents are from the South and this was a staple in our household. I thought theirs was the best! Don’t get mad mom, it’s just Seader really knows what he is doing. Don’t listen to me though, listen to my spouse who refuses to go near biscuits and gravy. However, I managed to get them to take a bite, and had to move my plate over, as they wanted to eat my order. That says a lot. What is the secret, well I do not want to give it away that he uses half and half rather than milk to make it rich and creamy and loaded with sausage.
The oversized pancakes are fluffy, the waffles are light, malted, and yummy and the French toast is tasty. For breakfast though, what was crazy good was the corn beef hash. Breakfast opens new doors in tasting when you eat at Jethro’s. May I suggest the green chili shredded pork. I was not really in the mood for it when it was suggested to me, but server Misty was not going to take no for an answer and she brought over a small bowl for me to sample. Why didn’t I order that instead? It was like no other flavor I have ever had.
All of their food from the chicken fried chicken, to the opened face roast beef sandwich where all served with fresh sautéed zucchini and onions. Of course, you can choose their pineapple Cole Slaw as well, which is sweet, crunchy and tasty. Their salads are piled high and even their basic tuna sandwich was awesome!
Here is the bottom line, if a restaurant is always packed, it must mean it is good, but then add a classically trained chef who goes out of his way to make “diner” food beyond delicious, then you have the ingredients to enjoy classic meals with a fine dining flair, but the price is always right.
Jethros Little Cafe is just plain good. It is friendly, fun and fair priced. Tucson Biz Beat salutes this locally owned diner, along with the owner, the wonderful workers, and gives them a double thumbs up in food and service. This diner packs in so much flavor that in the two weeks I have been eating there, I must have packed on five pounds. It’s okay, it will be well worth the exercise I will have to do to work it off.
