Kathleen Dreier Esensby Tyler Woods on Jul. 31, 2013, under Artist, Bussiness
What do you call a women who is raising a 17 year old son by herself, a social worker, a perfume maker and a photographer who walks a spiritual path and tries to help others? I call it perfect for Tucson Biz Beat. Kathleen Dreier, who’s passion is photography is a creative master of looking at life through a lens with her heart and spirit so today Tucson Biz Beat salutes Kathleen Dreier.
Reading and talking to Dreier one gets that she is a master of many creative skills. She developed a natural custom fragrance business called Esens Custom Fragrances over twenty years ago and has clients all over the world. Kathleen personally designs “one-of-a-kind” scents using essential and fragrance oils for a person’s personality.
Despite having clients all over the world, her real passion was photography. Dreier said, “I had been interested in becoming a photographer for years but once I moved to Tucson in late 2004, I realized that the someday I was waiting for to become a photographer would never come unless I took some action so I proceeded to diligently work on becoming one, taking classes, doing loads of volunteer gigs, practicing my craft literally every day.”
Working every day, she has and she has worked diligently on her intention as a photographer. “My intention is to capture moments that define who we are.” She says, “There are so many aspects to what makes us who we are, how we uniquely express ourselves, but most importantly, how our common humanity is so utterly connected. I set about visually documenting the whole story of a given person or event with that intention always in my mind and heart.”
Kathleen Dreier’s business, Esens Photography, does weddings, music and community festivals, homeless young adults, foster children, theater productions, cycling races, portraits and private family events. “Over a period of months, I have photographed the decline of a family member who had dementia, and the ongoing stories of non-profit agencies as they establish themselves.”
When I heard this I was taken back as my own father suffers from dementia and the pictures is not pretty, however, to be able to capture that on camera is not only amazing, but a spiritual process. Dreier would say, “My photography service is about revealing to the individual just how wonderful, beautiful and unique they are.” She continues, “On a macrocosm level, my photography service is about revealing our inter-connectedness as human beings no matter where we live in the world.”
Kathleen, who is the essence of spirituality and photography says, “To me, the true beauty of a person is revealed precisely when they have no idea they are being photographed and/or when a person, family or company gives me access to them and trusts me to be sensitive and photograph with complete integrity.”
Kathleen Dreier is working on many project including a fundraiser for her new equipment so she can capture the true essence of people and share those moments with the world.
