Road Closure: South Contractor’s Way
by Michael Carson on Dec. 08, 2010, under UncategorizedTucson Water announces that the one-way southbound segment of Contractor’s Way, which runs under the South Alvernon Way underpass, will remain closed for approximately two weeks while crews repair a damaged pipeline.
A 48” transmission line running parallel to Contractor’s Way ruptured on Tuesday morning. Workers are preparing to replace a segment of the damaged pipeline, which was installed in 1963. The age of the pipe is suspected to be the principle cause of the failure.
Closure of the southbound lane is required to establish a safe work zone for contractors at the site.
Some Tucson Water customers experienced low pressure at the onset of the rupture, but crews were able to quickly redirect water and re-establish full service in the area. Staff are now developing a plan that will allow repairs to be made with minimal service interruptions to the surrounding industrial complexes.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in the area.
Access to Contractor’s Way from Ajo Road is recommended while repairs are underway.
