I want to share my experience on this blog post seeing as I have personally seen similar experiences that I have come across and remind folks of the importance of having bacteria and chemically free water when we need it. I have spent many years learning about water quality and the harmful effects it has. When testing water from the tap or backyard water wells I have hardly ever seen healthy, high quality water. What really concerns me is when folks assume that those carbon type refrigerator water filters can continuously produce bacteria and chemically free water. In reality they in fact make the water more harmful as they absorb contaminants until the carbon becomes saturated then reintroduces bacteria and chemicals back into your drinking water. Fortunately there is a water treatment method that can create high quality drinking water. After many years testing different strategies the one that works best is a dual tank strategy using a combination of resin and charcoal. Using two tanks are significant because each tank can flush the other one clean, then they rotate and repeat to keep the water quality consistently high. There is just one manufacturer using this advanced technique, Kinetico. They spend a lot more money on research and development than any of the other companies that use off the shelf components to produce their water filtration systems. They are also the only company to offer a true ten year warranty on the entire system including all the important moving parts and not just the outer shell. I'm always looking out for whole house filtration products that lower cost and produce consistently healthy results. Unfortunatley in the last couple of years there has only been a a couple of companies working on new techniques. They seem to design products that need you to buy refills all the time.
