Tucson Fund-raising Events for Dogs – Feb 12-13
Paws in the Plaza – Sat., Feb. 12 – Northwest
The Plaza is Casa Adobes Plaza from noon to 3 p.m. where you can help raise much-needed funds for the Humane Society of So. Ariz. Browse merchandise from pet-friendly vendors while enjoying free refreshments from SPIKE Beverage and food samples from participating restaurants. Take a chance to win one of many prizes donated by the stores at Casas Adobes, including a $1,000 shopping spree. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
This is cute: Be prepared to meet your soul mate during this year’s doggy speed dating mixer, featuring the most furry and eligible bachelors and bachelorettes from the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Participants will spend a few minutes with each lucky canine contestant while reviewing entertaining descriptions and spending one-on-one time getting acquainted. These lovesick puppies can’t wait to meet their perfect lifelong companions!
Funds raised help house, feed and care for the nearly 10,000 pets taken in by the shelter every year. For more information on Paws in the Plaza and to buy advance raffle tickets, visit the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s web site.
DunRacing Festival – Sat., Feb 12 – Southeast
The DunRacing Festival will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Pima County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adopted and foster greyhounds and their people are invited. Lots of vendors and activities – Valentine’s Day photo booth, costume contest, longest tail, raffles, door prizes, memorial garden, and more. (Sorry no other dog breeds permitted.) If you’re thinking about adopting a greyhound, now is the time to come and meet them from Arizona Greyhound Rescue of Tucson, AZ Greyhounds Inc. of Sierra Vista, and Greyhounds2Go of Vail/Sahuarita. All proceeds from this event will go towards interim housing, care and transporting of retired racing greyhounds which come from the dog track in South Tucson. A significant portion of funds raised go for veterinary and medical care for ill, injured or special needs dogs. Advanced ticket sales are $5/person or $10/at the door.
(Blogger’s note: Done Racing are two of my favorite words when strung together consecutively. Let’s all hope that HB 2536 happens and puts an end to the cruel sport of greyhound racing in Arizona once and for all.)
