Tucson Tails: Wine Tasting Event/Cat Fundraiser, TNR News
Wine tasting for fortunate felines
Help raise much needed funds for Casa de los Gatos by tasting six purr-fecto wines this Sunday, Feb. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at CataVinos Wine Shoppe, 3063 N. Alvernon Way, one block south of Ft. Lowell. The cost is $20 (includes snacks) with $10 going to the cats. There will be a silent auction and raffle prizes to help up the financial ante. Drink wine and help the cats!
Casa de los Gatos is Arizona’s largest no-kill cat shelter. They operate a cage-free sanctuary for special needs cats, and a cage-free shelter and foster homes for adoptable cats & kittens. They promote and practice TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) for feral cats.
TNR: Working together to make a difference
Here’s an uplifting story of “Joan’s cats,” or how one incredibly caring person named Joan made a huge difference for hundreds of unfortunate kitties. Several gracious individuals joined the effort to trap and neuter these cats and find new places for them to live. Casa de los Gatos took three cats, as did HOPE Animal Shelter. HoofsNHorns Farm in Marana took 50 feral cats! The Hermitage Cat Shelter donated cages and traps.
If each of us made the effort to Trap, Neuter, and Return just one feral cat, together we’d prevent a sad fate for thousands of kittens. Many simply don’t survive in the desert, and others are destroyed at shelters. Several local cat rescue organizations have teamed up to promote TNR during the next couple of months.
TNR is an effective solution to the tragic pet overpopulation problem, and you can borrow traps from local trap depots. The Humane Society will do free spay/neuter for feral cats if they are brought in a trap first thing in the morning. For more information in Tucson, call (520) 881-0900.
