With only a moment of trepidation Mercedes quickly took to her new set of wheels. Thanks to a generous donor the Humane Society of Southern Arizona was able to fit Mercedes, a 1 1/2 year-old Pit Bull, with a mobility cart.

For the past year Mercedes has been without the use of her back legs. Originally Mercedes was brought in to the HSSA Clinic to be spayed and now her life is forever changed.

“It feels good to know there are people out there who really care about animals,” says Staci Ortegas, Mercedes’ owner. “I never imagined this would happen. We are so thankful to Animal Crusaders, and the Humane Society. Now she will be able to run and play with our other dogs.”

Dr. Jen Wilcox, veterinarian with the HSSA, fitted Mercedes with the cart. “It is incredibly rewarding. I feel so lucky to be part of such a generous community.”

The mobility cart is valued at nearly $500. The HSSA has two additional donated mobility carts, and hopes to find other candidates who too will benefit from increased mobility.

The HSSA Spay and Neuter Clinic is open 6 days a week, with vaccination clinics three days a week at the Campanions for Life Center. To schedule an appointment or find out more about clinic services call 520.881.0321 or visit the website.
