Here are some photos from Monday’s Pit n’ Proud support walk around Reid Park.

My friend Kate who writes Eco-Tucson blog and I went out to meet the Pits and get some exercise.

Friendly pit bulls

kissy, kissy

The crowd was impressive and Fox-11 and KGUN-9 were out. The Pit Bulls mingled quietly as did some mixed breeds, a Rottie or two, some Chihuahuas (one wearing a green turtle neck dog coat).

One thing I did notice is that some dogs were not neutered.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that’s a macho guy thing. Dude, nobody wants to mess with your manhood but please neuter your dog which also makes him less aggressive. Every Pit Bull owner (or any breed owner for that matter) should be spaying and neutering their dogs. Here’s a list of where you can get your dog spayed for free or for a nominal fee here in Tucson. (download the flyer).

We don’t need no more stinkin’ backyard breeders selling dogs on the corner or in Wal-Mart parking lots. No reputable breeder posts signs on a telephone pole. Tear it down! No free advertising for backyard breeders.

We don’t need any more oops litters.

We don’t need to have any more unwanted pets sitting on PACC’s death row waiting to be euthanized.

The rant in favor of spay & neuter applies to all breeds not just bully breeds. Be a responsible pet owner.

ABSOLUTELY, I agree with spay and neutering. So much so, I have walked an alleged “Good Mom” who wanted to show her children the “grace of birth”… onto red list row (aka death row)  to show her the GRACE OF DEATH due to her irresponsiblity.

BUT…doesent speaking first hand to somone you oppose in an article sort of come off… hm, uh… immature and ruin the credibilityof the article itself?

BTW… Im fairly sure the guy with the unfixed dog didnt intend a public display of manhood, rather… he has no quams with displaying the fact that is a backyard breeder. Times are tough, $50 a puppy that appears effortlessly? You bet. Uneducated people and the creatons in our culture think nothing of reching a female of liters until she drops. (Then she is kicked to the curb).
I believe these people should be lump together with pro dog fighters,  lowered into a pit, spritzs with gasoline, and then someone accidently drops their cigarette in.

All Im saying is… keep the cause for pit bulls credible, with merit, and with integrity.

A good time was had by all – nice, beautiful dogs and the humans that love them.
I second the suggestion to please fix your pets. There are too many unwanted dogs as it is.

Thanks for a great blog.  Spay and neuter is a large part of todays reality.  Whether it is a pit event or a greyhound event the message should be the same.  Nice dogs, good manners and oh yes let’s get the population down.  In rescue we are tired of being behind the eightball of rescue or euthanize this nice animal.  Need I say more.  Too much back yard breeding spitting out puppies for Craig’s lists and for what reason? Too many are discarded at some time in their life for useless reasons.  Believe me I have heard too many excuses.  Go forward and spay/neuter your intact animals and help us get this population under control.
