FAIR and Beading Divas to the Rescue
Every month the Beading Divas chooses a different animal charity to raise money for by selling beautiful one-of-a-kind beaded bracelets. FAIR (Foundation for Animals at Risk) located in Tucson is the February group. FAIR rescues pets from PACC’s kill line as well as badly abused animals and pets in need. You can buy bracelets at Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Avenue or Sissy’s Pet Grooming Salon, 7350 N. La Cholla (in Albertsons Shopping Center) or online via Etsy.com. You can also drop off canned or dry food for dogs/cats, carriers, crates, kennels, and office supplies at Silver Sea for FAIR.
February 4 – Puppy Mill Protest
The infamous Hunte Corporation supplies puppy mill dogs to Desert Pet. Puppy mills are responsible for the inhumane treatment of dogs and puppies on a very large scale. If you abhor puppy mills, come to Desert Pet on the next four Saturdays in February (4, 11, 18, & 25) and be part of the Tucson Dog Protection group who are willing to speak out. Desert Pet is located at 4810 E. 22nd St. The protests are held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a sign or use an existing sign.
February 5 – Give Skechers to the Homeless Day
Last Saturday many animal lovers turned out to protest Skechers because the shoe company filmed a commercial at the South Tucson dog track. This advertisement promotes the cruel sport of dog racing. On Super Bowl Sunday, people are asked to give their Skechers to the homeless. Please drop off your Skechers at a homeless shelter or you can drop them off at Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts located at 330 N. 4th Avenue. The shopkeeper will then take them to the homeless youth center.
