Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your dogs and kids

from the press release

Tucson dogs will again have their own Valentine’s Day, Sun., Feb. 12, at the Love Your Dog Valentine Social in the Geronimo Plaza at Main Gate Square located on University Boulevard between Park and Euclid Avenues. Free parking available in the Tyndall Avenue Parking Garage.

KOLD News 13 Meteorologist and animal lover Erin Jordan will MC the event.

From noon to 3 p.m., families can enter their dogs in contests, get them massaged, microchip check and nail trimming, and have a photo taken with their people. Adults and kids alike can participate in dog-care activities and mural painting, make a Kindness tag for their dogs and spin a prize wheel. Kids especially should enjoy balloon art, dog toy making, face painting and
creating Valentines for their dogs.

Contest registration starts at 12:30 p.m. Dogs will vie for the title of Best Kisser, Best Trick, Best Smile and other fun categories. The contest also includes a special category for kids — Best Junior Handler. Judging is ongoing throughout the day until 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded after the Dog Parade at 2:15 p.m. Contest prizes are courtesy of Main Gate Square merchants.

Attendance is free. There is a $10 fee for dog massages, Valentine photographs and for contest registration.

Proceeds will benefit the Gabriel’s Angels Southern Arizona program.

Therapy teams are owners and their dogs who visit facilities serving at-risk children. These visits provide children with unconditional love and teach children compassion, nurturing, and trust. The Therapy Dogs lift children’s spirits, give them hope, and provide safe and unconditional acceptance.
